An
all
Affirming Congregation is
one that welcomes Gays into all of the life of the local
church, and is gay-friendly, and believes one CAN
be Christian and Gay at the same time, since God
created all peoples including Gays.
We accept all people, no matter where on life's journey they are
at the moment. If you are seeking for truth and knowledge, and seeking
for a closer walk with God, come visit and grow with us.
We believe in the transforming power of the Holy Spirit
of God working in our hearts, souls, bodies,
minds, and in our lives to be more like Jesus. But that
process does NOT change our sexual
orientation any more then it changes our skin color
or gender. These are some things God will never do, nor
have any reason to change.
There are some Affirming Congregations in most
denominations today. You have to go to their local church website
to find more info.
This is opposed to
churches that are Transforming Congregations, which
means one can NOT be Christian and Gay, but they
welcome Gays that are seeking to transform into a "Straight"
lifestyle. We believe that view to be an utter impossibility, sinful,
and also un-Biblical, and against ALL modern scientific intelligence and
information.
Most churches are neither, that is, they ignore gay people
of faith, or else boot them out from their membership
and churches (which is very sad and very un-Christ-like).
YOU are ALL welcome at
The Rock MCC church!
May "trouble makers" be
changed by the power of God even before they pass by our church
property, before they enter the front door of our church building!
Visit us this Sunday!
May God Bless You All
in the Name of Jesus! |

For as long as she can remember,
Lisa has loved Jesus and the church, embracing God’s love and grace
for all people. Rooted in this faith, she has had a lifelong commitment
to showing compassion and working for justice for all people.
Lisa received a BA
degree in English Education from Florida Southern College
and a Master of Divinity from Candler School of Theology at
Emory University, graduating with Honors in 1995.
Though she grew up primarily in the
Methodist
church, Lisa
became member of
Metropolitan
Community Church in September
of 1994 and became involved in a variety of ministries, including
children’s ministries, worship leadership, Christian education, as well
as serving on Mentoring Teams for 3 pastoral candidates (all of
whom are now successful
MCC
Pastors).
Lisa completed her clergy
candidacy at Christ Covenant MCC in Decatur, GA and was
ordained there in 2001. She has served as Director of Christian
Education at Christ Covenant MCC, Volunteer Clergy
at Our Hope MCC in Athens GA, and most recently,
Interim Worship Leader at Christ Covenant MCC.
Currently, Lisa’s full time
ministry is through Georgia Community Support and Solutions,
a non-profit agency that works with people with disabilities and their
families. There, Lisa is the Director of the Family
Support Department that serves over 1,000 individuals and their
families. She has nearly 20 years experience in social service and
non-profit management.
Lisa’s particular interest at
this point is in assisting communities, particularly communities of
faith, to become leaders in being welcoming and supportive of all
people, including sexual minorities, people with disabilities and their
families, and other oppressed and excluded people.
Partnered for 12 years,
Lisa’s
partner, Tammy,
is the Technical Services Librarian at
Columbia Seminary.
Their son
is a 17 year old high school junior, and is a dancer at
North Carolina School
of the Arts in Winston-Salem.
In what little spare
time she has,
Lisa’s
hobbies include reading, watching performing arts, and eating good food. |
My favorite season of the
church year is here! Advent is the season four
weeks before Christmas in which we prepare for the
coming of Christ. It begins this year on December
2 and ends on Christmas Eve. It is a season that we use to
prepare ourselves for the birth of Jesus, the coming of Christ,
bringing peace, hope, joy, and love.
The word Advent
means "coming" or "arrival." Advent is marked by a spirit of
expectation, of anticipation, of preparation, of longing. It
anticipates anew, the reign of an Anointed One, a Messiah, who
will bring peace and justice and righteousness to the world.
Advent is celebrated as a time of joy and happiness as we await
the coming of the Ruler of All.
In order to assist us in
preparing our minds, hearts, and souls, we light the
Advent wreath each Sunday. Because we will use blue as
the primary sanctuary color for the Season of Advent,
the colors of the candles will be three blue candles, and one
pink candle. One of the blue candles is lit the first Sunday of
Advent, a Scripture is read, a short devotional or reading is
given, and a prayer offered. On subsequent Sundays, previous
candles are relit with an additional one lighted. The pink
candle is will be lit on the third Sunday of Advent. The center
candle is white and is called the Christ Candle,
lit on Christmas Eve. The central location of the Christ Candle
reminds us that God with us in Jesus is the heart of the season,
giving light to the world.
God is doing something
new within us, with our community. Advent gives us
an opportunity to get ready for that something new, to prepare
ourselves. So, let us love one another well this Advent and
help folks experience the presence and power of Jesus Christ,
God with us already, giving light to the world.
Wishing all an Advent
season full of peace, hope, joy, and love.
Rev. Lisa
Advent Prayer by Henri J.
M. Nouwen
Lord Jesus,
Master of both the light
and the darkness, send your Holy Spirit upon our preparations
for Christmas.
We who have so much to do
seek quiet spaces to hear your voice each day.
We who are anxious over
many things look forward to your coming among us.
We who are blessed in so
many ways long for the complete joy of your kingdom.
We whose hearts are heavy
seek the joy of your presence.
We are your people,
walking in darkness, yet seeking the light.
To you we say, "Come Lord
Jesus!"
Amen.
