An
all
Affirming Congregation is
one that welcomes Gays into all of the life of the local
church, and is gay-friendly, and believes one CAN
be Christian and Gay at the same time, since God
created all peoples including Gays.
We accept all people, no matter where on life's journey they are
at the moment. If you are seeking for truth and knowledge, and seeking
for a closer walk with God, come visit and grow with us.
We believe in the transforming power of the Holy Spirit
of God working in our hearts, souls, bodies,
minds, and in our lives to be more like Jesus. But that
process does NOT change our sexual
orientation any more then it changes our skin color
or gender. These are some things God will never do, nor
have any reason to change.
There are some Affirming Congregations in most
denominations today. You have to go to their local church website
to find more info.
This is opposed to
churches that are Transforming Congregations, which
means one can NOT be Christian and Gay, but they
welcome Gays that are seeking to transform into a "Straight"
lifestyle. We believe that view to be an utter impossibility, sinful,
and also un-Biblical, and against ALL modern scientific intelligence and
information.
Most churches are neither, that is, they ignore gay people
of faith, or else boot them out from their membership
and churches (which is very sad and very un-Christ-like).
YOU are ALL welcome at
The Rock MCC church!
May "trouble makers" be
changed by the power of God even before they pass by our church
property, before they enter the front door of our church building!
Visit us this Sunday!
May God Bless You All

Meet our Pastor
It is with deep sadness that
we announce that our pastor,
Rev. Sweeting, Pastor Ty, has been called elsewhere,
and has resigned his position as pastor of The Rock MCC.
Sunday, January 21, 2007, was his last Sunday with us, and
Friday, January 26, was his last day here.
We have formed a Pastoral Search Committee,
and our MCC Regional Elder will appoint an Interim Pastor to
lead us through this time of pain and healing to new growth as
we go forward into our future with God leading. |

Pastor
Tyrone Sweeting enrolled in Andrew College in
Cuthbert, Georgia, receiving his A.S. in June,
1985.
At that point, Tyrone
received a Phi Theta Kappa academic
scholarship to attend Florida Atlantic University in
Boca Raton, Florida, receiving his B.A. in
Communication in December, 1987.
Tyrone then attended St. Thomas
University in Miami, receiving his M.A.
in Pastoral Ministry, in June of 1990. During
this time, Tyrone also completed his internship
at Sunshine Cathedral MCC.
Tyrone then served as Assistant Pastor
of MCC Key West,
founding Pastor of MCC Lafayette,
Louisiana, and as Senior Pastor of
MCC at Boise, in Boise, Idaho. While in Boise,
Pastor Tyrone became actively involved in the
cause of human rights, working closely with the interfaith group
Idaho Voices of Faith for Human Rights.
Rev. Sweeting was honored for this work at the
UFMCC General Conference in Atlanta,
receiving awards from both the Fellowship
and the UFMCC Ministry of Social Justice
for his work to help defeat the infamous
Proposition One, a heinous anti-gay/lesbian ballot
initiative put forward by a group calling itself the
Idaho Citizens Alliance.
Tyrone was then called to serve
Church of Our Savior MCC in October, 1996. In
May, 1997, he led that church to the purchase of a building,
which now is their permanent home at 2011 South Federal Highway
in Boynton Beach, Florida. In January, 1999, under
Pastor Tyrone's careful guidance, we began a television
ministry on Comcast Cable in Palm
Beach County, which ran for 2 years.
In February, 1999,
Pastor Tyrone was selected by the prestigious
International Biographical Centre in
Cambridge, England, to be listed in their forthcoming book,
2000 Outstanding Scholars of the 20th Century.
During that time, Tyrone also began pursuing a
Doctor of Ministry degree from the
Florida Center for Theological Studies in Miami, a
program he has been able to continue working on at a distance.
Pastor
Ty was called here to The Rock MCC church in
May, 2004, and he began serving as pastor in June.
Pastor Tyrone continues to be involved in many community
activities, raising awareness about issues of social justice and
sharing the good news that God loves all people. |
